Image
Cross River State's industrial prowess was once renowned globally, with foreign dignitaries flocking to visit its impressive fa ctories, including the Garment, Chicken, Noodles, Feedmill, Calpharm, and Rice Seedlings facilities in Ayade Industrial Park, Calabar. However, since the handover to Prince Otu, the fate of these industries remains uncertain, sparking concerns among the populace. The mysterious disappearance of these industries from public discourse has raised questions about their current status. Have they been sold, converted to private use, looted, or abandoned? The lack of transparency and accountability from the government has created an air of suspicion, leading many to wonder if these industries have been deliberately hidden from the public. Furthermore, the apparent disregard for the welfare of Cross River State's citizens has led to feelings of disenfranchisement. The government's inaction has created a sense of neglect, with many feeling like they are bei...

CARNIVAL CALABAR FLIGHT SHORTAGE FOR REVELERS

Image
The Calabar Carnival has once again proven to be a massive draw , attracting approximately 3 million revelers. Despite its global popularity, the state government failed to capitalize on this opportunity by not providing sufficient flights to Calabar. Instead, resources were allocated to the Ogoja Carnival and a state house in Ogoja, which many consider a misallocation of funds. The lack of flights led to sold-out situations as early as November, causing inconvenience to many attendees. This oversight highlights the need for experienced individuals in Governor Prince Otu's administration. The presence of President Buhari and two state governors at the carnival was a notable positive, but the government's slow response to addressing the flight shortage is a concern. The government should have urgently provided additional aircraft to Callyair, ensuring that the state is better equipped to handle the influx of visitors for the  events. Governor Otu's administration has shown ...

CALABAR CARNIVAL FAILS TO TREND ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Image
The recently Calabar Carnival, a flagship event of Cross River State, failed to generate significant buzz on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This lack of online presence has raised questions about the state government's strategy for promoting the event and engaging with local content creators. At the heart of this issue is the government's apparent failure to recognize and partner with individual state-owned bloggers and social media influencers. These local content creators have a deep understanding of the state's culture, events, and audience, making them ideal partners for promoting the carnival. By neglecting to collaborate with these influencers, the state government missed a golden opportunity to amplify the carnival's reach and impact on social media. This oversight is particularly surprising, given the significant investment made in organizing the event. State-owned bloggers and social media influencers possess a unique ability to s...

STAMPEDE: THE NEED FOR GOVERNMENT AND POLITICIANS TO USE TARGETED APPROACH TO AVOID STAMPEDE.

Image
By MARCEL EDEM  cross River live Media. The recent stampede tragedies in Abuja and Anambra State have brought to the forefront the need for alternative methods of distributing gifts and promoting fun fairs without putting citizens' lives at risk. The root cause of these incidents can be attributed to the widespread dissemination of information by the media, which often creates unnecessary hype and attracts large crowds to events that are not equipped to handle them. Governments and politicians must reassess their approach to hosting events, prioritizing the safety and well-being of attendees over the desire for publicity and grandeur. One possible solution is to adopt a more decentralized and targeted approach to gift-giving and community engagement. For instance, governments could partner with local community organizations and leaders to distribute gifts and resources directly to those in need, thereby avoiding the need for large gatherings. Another approach could be to leverage t...

THE GOVERNOR COULD HAVE CONSIDERED REFORMING THE COMMITTEE INSTEAD

Image
THE GOVERNOR COULD HAVE CONSIDERED REFORMING THE COMMITTEE INSTEAD The dissolution of the Infrastructure Task Force Committee by the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, raises several concerns. While the Governor's intention to streamline responsibilities and ensure efficient management of infrastructure development is understandable, dissolving the committee may not be the most effective solution. One major concern is that the dissolution of the committee may lead to a loss of specialized knowledge and expertise. The committee members, having worked on infrastructure development projects, have likely gained valuable insights and experience that would be beneficial in future projects. By dissolving the committee, this expertise may be lost, potentially hindering future infrastructure development efforts. Furthermore, the Governor's decision to assign the responsibilities of the dissolved committee to the Cross River State Infrastructure Development A...

THE ABSENCE OF GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AT STATE ORGANIZED EVENTS HAVE HINDER THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GOVERNOR OTU INITIATIVES IN THE STATE. By Marcel Edem  Chief editor Cross River Live  The absence of government officials at state-organized events in Cross River State, especially when the governor and deputy governor are not present, has become a pressing concern. Events like the Cross River Trade Fair at U.J. Esuene Stadium and the Cross State Students Entrepreneurship, Employability, and Mentorship program at the Metropolitan Hotel are crucial platforms for engagement, yet they often lack representation from government aides. This lack of representation sends the wrong signal to the public and undermines the efforts of the state government. Government aides, including commissioners, special advisers, and other high-ranking officials, have a critical role to play in promoting government initiatives, providing support, and fostering partnerships with local businesses and org...
