On November 13, 2024, the Executive Chairman of ABI Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Egbala Bassey, ceremoniously launched a transformative medical outreach and empowerment program in Agbara and Ngarabe Health Centers, Ekureku, ABI L.G.A., Cross River State. The initiative, meticulously organized, funded, and championed by Chief Dr. Alex Egbona, Member representing the ABI/Yakurr Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, marks a significant step in improving the health and well-being of the local populace.


Preceded by a comprehensive training for medical personnel across ABI/Yakurr, this outreach offers essential healthcare services, including health screenings, consultations, access to medications, and critical surgeries— all entirely free of charge. The program brought together a distinguished team of medical professionals from Abuja, Enugu, Abakaliki, and Calabar, all committed to addressing the diverse health needs of the people in ABI/Yakurr.


At Agbara, Hon. Chief Egbala Bassey expressed immense pride in the caliber of healthcare experts mobilized for the initiative, hailing their dedication to providing top-tier medical services vital for the community’s health. He also took the opportunity to commend Rt. Hon. Dr. Alex Egbona for his continuous commitment to the welfare of his constituents. Highlighting the importance of the outreach, he urged residents to take full advantage of the services on offer, stressing that good health is essential for individuals to thrive and for the community to fully benefit from the dividends of democracy and development.


Following this, Hon. Egbala made a visit to Nko in Yakurr, where he joined the Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, Hon. Yibala Igri, to launch the Yakurr phase of the Free Medical Outreach Empowerment Program. The flag-off took place at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Nko, marking another milestone in the drive to address critical healthcare needs within the constituency.


In his remarks, Hon. Yibala Igri expressed great satisfaction with the opportunity to support such a far-reaching and impactful initiative, recognizing it as a reflection of the leadership’s deep compassion and commitment to the health of the community. He also thanked Rt. Hon. Dr. Alex Egbona for his relentless dedication to improving the lives of his people, assuring the continued support of the Yakurr administration for such transformative programs.
